Yes, I live in a desert. I know this. And, really, I'm fine with the whole concept of "desert" right up through about 90 degrees. After that, I long for Scotland with increased fervor.
Let me just say that a heavy cloud cover came in this evening --- and the temperature DROPPED to 94.
Yeah.
My dad went to the grocery store, and his car thermometer registered 109 all the way there and back again.
I went to a doctor's appointment at about the same time. My car thermometer registered 104 all the way there and 105 all the way back.
But the real joy was returning to the car AFTER the doctor appointment. The car had been in the sun on black top for one hour. The car temperature? 122 F. Yeah, that's toasty.
We're going to be in triple digits all this week now. These are the times I long to live in a place where you don't break a sweat just walking from room to room. Ugh.
It was hot today. My house got up to 78F, with the swamp cooler going full blast. It's the dog days of August.
ReplyDeleteThere's a point every day where my swamp cooler stops cooling and the temperature begins to rise. At that point, I shut the cooler off and close all the windows to keep the cool air in as much as possible.
ReplyDeleteIn spite of the roasting heat outside, it only climbed to 84 in my house before evening hit and I could re-engage the swamp cooler. It's down to about 77 right now.
Actually, I checked, and my swamp cooler never got things lower than 81 last night. Down to about 78 this morning, though.
DeleteWow I just googled a temperature converter - 122F is 50 degrees C !!!
ReplyDeleteThat. Is. Hot.
Yes, well it was the CAR. And once I got the AC running, it dropped to 105, which is about 41-ish in Celsius. Still very toasty, but more believable for Utah. We're not exactly like some of those Arabia countries where 114 is normal.
DeleteWe have had the same hot summer (out of the desert) but we were gifted with (YES!) rain, storms (sadly) but now cooler temps, at the moment 64, but the afternoon will bring it up again, but the cooler mornings do remind me of autumn nearing. :( I'll try and fan some cold air your way! :)
ReplyDeleteOh yes, please do fan some of that 64 degree air over my way!
