The Exciting Life Of An English Teacher

Between academic team and grading papers, I've been short on sleep -- as usual -- this week.  But this afternoon I got caught up on all the "quick" grading at school (grammar assignments and vocab tests that don't require much effort to grade, as opposed to essays and projects, which do), and I'd promised myself a few hours to type up the changes to Half-Vampire so I could submit the PDF for the third proof (sigh).
But by chapter nine, my eyes were stinging and I couldn't think straight to make difficult decisions on cuts anymore.  I knew it was very late and I'd better get to bed.  I checked the time: 7:19.
Oh yeah.
Another wild and crazy Friday night for me.
Sigh.

  1. I don't think I've seen 7pm bedtime since I was a baby? Good for you making your sleep a priority (after being deprived, sigh)

  2. That is hilarious. I have that experience fairly regularly. Hope you find some time to finish your proofs.

  3. You sound like a very normal teacher...if any teacher can be considered normal.

  4. Hmmm, about as exciting as my Friday night. I think I fell asleep right around 8:30. Yeah, party animals, that's what we are!

  5. Ha! No wonder you were tired, though, after all that paperwork, not just on your book but on your kids' papers. Hope you got caught up on sleep and are able to get more done this weekend.

  6. There was a time in my life that I wanted to be an English teacher. Now...not so much.

  7. My wife teaches 6th grade Language Arts and Geography. Oh how well I can appreciate the fun of grading papers on a weekend, from the spouse's perspective, at least.

By the way, thanks for stopping by over my way. And I must say...raising my kids the three of us practiced a mantra. All life is precious. Whether eagle, pigion or dove they be.

Let the eyes rest every hour.

  8. It's a thrill a minute, isn't it?

The stuff that is really hard to grade also tends to be the stuff that is the most fun to grade. But it just takes AGES! I never appreciated how much time my teachers put into marking my essays when I was a student. You can spend ages on marking and still not do as much as you should.

But once in a while you get a little nugget of gold that makes it all worth it.
